The final round of the Best of the West Series for 2004 was held at Sun Valley Speedway, the largest off-road track in california. The very challenging track brought out the largest turnout of the series with close to 140 entries. The final round counted for double points, so as many as 6 drivers still had a chance to win the series. Bobby Tillman was leading with
0 points, while Chad Bradley and Gene Hickerson were tied for 2nd place with 2 points.
During qualifying, Bradley showed how fast he is at his home track by taking TQ honors. Hickerson and Tillman both had problems in qualifying and ended up in the B-main. The B-main was a very exciting race between Bill Hagen and Tillman. They battled for the lead for the whole race. Hickerson was in 3rd and closing fast after a bad start. Then on the last lap, Hagen bobbled and Tillman ran into him, causing them both to tangle and wreck. Hickerson passed both to take the win, followed by Tillman.
The A-main event was cut short due to daylight running out. Bradley took the lead and the eventual win. Hickerson ran out of fuel with 1 minute left, dropping him from 4th to 10th place; while Tillman finished 4th. After the points were added up, Bradley took the overall win with 0 points, edging out Tillman with 4 points. The series was a great success and looks to be bigger and better in 2005.
